Home: Welcome

Bio

Born in Cape Town and raised in the Karoo, Daniel grew up exploring his creativity by fashioning structures from discarded materials on his grandfather's farm.

Moving to Cape Town, he enjoyed a brief stint on the set of Starz' Black Sails, which sealed his interest in film. He enrolled in a BA at the University of Cape Town, which he would follow with an Honours in documentary filmmaking.

While at university, Daniel produced two award-winning short films: There's Still Good (2017, 12 min), premiering at Outfest Fusion in California and winning 'Best Music' at the LGBT Toronto Film Festival, and The Water Dancers (2018, 25 min), screening across 19 countries and winning a Golden Horn award at the 13th South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs).

Intent on adventure, Daniel moved to Tokyo to teach English in 2018. During his time in Japan, he invested in his writing, both on his blog and for Japan's first LGBT chamber of commerce. In 2020, Daniel began impact producing his first feature-length documentary, Ushiku (2021, 87 min), which premiered online with Frankfurt-based Nippon Connection Japanese Film Festival.

Daniel is currently based in Cape Town and working to create social impact through powerful storytelling.
